Engine hours
You log hours per engine. The count only goes forward, and a change of engine or meter stays on record.
Deadlines
Registration, technical inspection, insurance: the dates in one place, the nearest one on the boat's overview and in the dossier.
Timeline
Every new receipt or record lands on the timeline with its cost and category. The dossier is ready at any moment, and more complete each time.
The history goes with the boat.
Selling the boat? Its history and documents go into one file, and the buyer opens it in their own Barka. For a new phone of your own you don't need that file: the phone's backup brings Barka over.
Hand-over file
"Hand over the boat" builds a single .barka file: the records, the attached documents, engine hours and deadlines. The new owner opens it in their own Barka and continues where you stopped.
Six languages
Croatian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish. Receipts are read in each of them, and the dossier switches language with the app.
Kuna and euro
Croatian records from before the euro are converted at the fixed rate and shown with both figures, so the history stays comparable.
Two kinds of record
Every record in the dossier carries a mark saying what stands behind it. Two examples:
Whoever reads the dossier sees for themselves what is backed by a document and what is the owner's word. A handwritten service book doesn't show that difference.
A dossier is organized documentation, not a certificate. Barka is a record-keeping tool: it does not check or guarantee the accuracy of the records or the authenticity of the attached documents. A buyer checks the attached receipts, the papers and the hull number of the vessel. See the terms of use.
Common questions
How do I keep a maintenance record for my boat?
Every job on the boat becomes a record in Barka: you photograph the receipt, import a PDF or a spreadsheet, or type the job in by hand. Each record has a date, a category and an amount, and lands on the boat's timeline. You log engine hours per engine, and deadlines such as registration or insurance sit in one place. When you need it, Barka turns all of it into a PDF dossier.
What do "documented" and "owner's statement" mean?
Every record in the dossier carries one of two marks. DOCUMENTED means a receipt, an invoice or another document is attached to the record, and the dossier includes it. OWNER'S STATEMENT means the owner entered the record without a document. Barka does not check whether a document is genuine or correct. The owner compiles the dossier, and whoever reads it looks at the attached documents for themselves.
What should I show a buyer when I sell my boat?
The dossier: one PDF with the history by category, the attached documents, engine hours and deadlines. A buyer can look at every receipt and compare the papers and the hull number (HIN) with the boat itself. If the buyer uses Barka too, "Hand over the boat" makes a single .barka file with the whole history and the documents, and they carry on in their own Barka.
Can I bring in my old spreadsheets and receipts?
Yes. Barka imports spreadsheets in .xlsx, .xls or .csv, PDF documents and photos of receipts. It reads the date, amount, vendor and items, and you go through each record in the draft and correct what needs it. Anything it can't read stays empty until you fill it in.
Where is my data kept?
On your iPhone. You don't open an account and Barka has no server, so your records, documents and photos stay on the phone and in its backup. That backup also brings Barka, with everything in it, to a new iPhone. The text recognition built into the app sends Google some technical data about its own work, and the privacy statement says exactly what.
What does Barka cost?
Barka 1.0 is free: up to three boats, the whole log, the dossier and the hand-over. If you look after more boats, write to me at support@barka.club.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. The version for Android and Google Play is in the works.
